The Wild Coaster Itinerary

  • Day 1: Meet at the Wild Coast Casino at 7:30am (TBC)

Your incredible journey begins at 7:30 AM with a meet-up at the Wild Coast Casino. Here, you will be introduced to your dedicated guide and logistics manager before we jump into our comfortable shuttle for the scenic 3.5-hour drive to Mtentu Lodge. After settling in and enjoying an early lunch, it’s time to hit the trails! We’ll embark on an exhilarating 12 km round-trip hike to discover the impressive Mkambati Falls and the breathtaking Standloper Falls. Both sites offer fantastic swimming opportunities to cool off, and for the adrenaline seekers, Standloper Falls even features a small, optional cliff jump!

  • Day 2: Estuary Paddle and Gorge Hike

Day 2 kicks off with an exciting exploration of the stunning Mtentu Estuary. We’ll jump into our kayaks for a scenic 4 km paddle upstream to the estuary's upper reaches. Once ashore, the real challenge begins: a 4 km steep gorge walk. Though strenuous, the effort is instantly rewarded as we reach a secluded, beautiful waterfall and natural swimming pool—a perfect spot for a refreshing dip! We'll then return to Mtentu Lodge for a well-deserved lunch. In the afternoon, we take things easier with a short, relaxing walk to a nearby waterfall and pool, allowing you to unwind and enjoy the remaining hours of daylight.

  • Day 3: Xolobeni Red Desert - 16KM

Day 3 takes us on a spectacular hike through the dramatic and unique Xolobeni Red Desert, a geological wonder that promises to truly leave you in awe. Along our journey, we'll enjoy stretches of beach walking, allowing us to dip our toes in the sea, and we’ll take a refreshing break and swim at the beautiful Sikombe Lagoon. We will also spend time exploring the fascinating ruins of an unknown shipwreck that whispers tales of the past. After this rewarding day of exploration, we'll make a celebratory stop at a local tavern for a well-deserved, refreshing beer before settling in for the night at Nolwandile’s Homestay—your chance to experience rich, authentic Pondo culture.

  • Day 4: Hike to the Wild Coast Sun (15km)

On your final day, we begin our scenic inland route hike toward the Wild Coast Sun, traversing the beautiful Mzamba Valley and crossing the exhilarating Mzamba Suspension Bridge. This route offers fantastic river crossings and a memorable opportunity to swim in a secluded river pool. More than just scenery, this inland journey provides a special glimpse into the lives of the local Sigidi community, who have successfully transitioned from subsistence farming to becoming the country's largest suppliers of sweet potatoes and Mdumbis. We aim to arrive back at the Wild Coast Casino around 12:00 PM, where we will say our farewells as you head to your vehicles, carrying unforgettable memories of Pondoland.
